Get to Know Jennifer
Jen’s path to becoming a nurse was not a direct route. She grew up on a small farm in northern New Jersey, where she developed a deep love and respect for the natural world. Yet, she was also drawn to the culture and excitement of New York City. Fascinated with what makes us tick, Jen studied psychology at Columbia University and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1996. Soon after graduating college, Jen found yoga, and cultivated a practice that has lasted for more than 25 years. She is an 800-hour advanced certified Jivamukti Yoga teacher with more than 20 years of teaching experience. Jen loves how yoga has taught her to care for herself, for others, and for the natural world around her. During a journey to India, the motherland of yoga, Jen was deeply affected by the suffering she witnessed in the aftermath of the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004. Wanting to be able to help more, she returned home and enrolled in nursing school. Jen received her BSN from Rutgers in 2009. Years later, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Jen was deployed to the emergency department, and saw the reality of mental health issues bearing down on our communities. Circling back to her initial interest in psychology, she enrolled in Wilkes University for her MSN. Jen is thankful to now be able to bridge the healing modalities of yoga and meditation with the western medical model in order to offer the best aspects of both to her patients. When not at work, Jen enjoys yoga, playing in her garden, cooking for family and friends, hiking, dancing, listening to audiobooks, and spending time with her beloved husband, 9-year-old daughter, and two cats.
