Joan Palermo APN, PMHNP

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Joan graduated Rutgers University in 1980 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology, working in various research labs during her time there. After becoming a mom in 1988, she developed a great appreciation for the nurses who cared for her. She decided to become an RN and went to Brookdale Community college to received her Associates Degree and became a registered nurse in 1990. Joan has worked in various fields, including orthopedics, women’s health, trauma, cardiology, children’s psych, emergency department and homecare. Finally, after 25 years, she sought more knowledge in her field and went to Monmouth University to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. Joan started working in sub-acute rehab, then the emergency department, followed by a holistic environment doing IV vitamin drips and PRP injections and finally worked in urgent care. Joan decided to go back to school for her PMHNP certification in 2021 after the culmination of a career witnessing so many disparities in the ER and the hospital floors; often due to low socioeconomic status, cultural, minority and gender inequalities and their relationship to many mental and physical ailments. Joan believes that nursing encompasses the body, mind and spirit and health and illness are delicately dependent on the inherent balance among the trio. Her goal with Integrated Care Concepts is to help as many clients as she can find balance, health, stability and happiness in their lives through a holistic, therapeutic relationship that can grow over time.
