Barbara Dougherty MA, MSW, LSW

Barbara received her BSW in 2002 and MA in 2006 from Georgian Court University and her MSW from Widener University in 2020. Barbara received her LSW in April, 2021 and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers. She is also a member of the New Jersey School Counselors Association and has been a middle school counselor for the past 15 years working with adolescents and their families.

Barbara believes that therapy makes us stronger. Reaching out takes courage and her vision is to inspire and empower change in her clients. She offers a warm, empathetic, safe, and nonjudgmental space for clients to talk and learn more about who they are. Barbara sees her role as a supporter and uses a collaborative approach to help heal and empower the whole person. Her focus is on assisting her clients in recognizing their strengths and to help them discover new strengths and ideas so they can reach their goals. Barbara believes in the power of the therapeutic relationship and honors the space that is required for healing, feeling, and for real growth to occur. She utilizes a broad range of therapies, including cognitive behavior, solution-focused, and person-centered to address depression and anxiety, mental health disorders, aging, life transitions, relationships, grief, caregiving issues, parenting, and women’s issues.

Get to Know Barbara

Barbara went back to school as an adult and truly enjoys being a lifelong learner. She is an animal and nature lover and has two rescue dogs that are her best friends, especially during the pandemic. Barbara loves to read historical fiction and spend as much time outdoors as possible. She strives to walk and meditate daily to help keep her grounded.
