Ariel Barter LAC, NCC

Clinician

Growing up, Ariel became interested in reading in order to understand other people’s point of view and in writing as a tool to help people; counseling became a way to combine the two. To that end, she earned her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Creative Writing, at The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz in 2017, where she interned at the New Paltz Youth Program and became involved in research. She then went on to obtain her Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2020, where she assisted in research on the effects of EMDR therapy in reducing symptoms associated with PTSD caused by domestic violence. Ariel also worked as an intern at a higher level of care facility called GenPsych at its former Hamilton location, where she supported children, adolescents, and adults affected by anxiety, depression, anger, low self-esteem, and other issues and situations. Ariel became a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). She is currently working towards becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

Get to Know Ariel

One quote that speaks to Ariel is “it is not what you look at that matters; it’s what you see” by Henry David Thoreau. When meeting with clients, Ariel likes to sit alongside the client and try to understand what they see and to empathize with what the client is feeling and experiencing. Ariel tries to use this understanding to empower the client and to help them reach their goals.
