Lena Gilman is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Artist/ Photographer, NY/NJ Certified Art and Elementary Educator, and NJ Certified School Social Worker.

Working with children and families for over 20 years, she obtained her first Master’s degree in Education, from Wagner College, Staten Island, NY.  Through twelve years teaching experience, working in a middle school within the NYC department of Education, and prompted to embrace her empathy and intuitive nature, she sought to understand how to better support our children and communities with compassion and cultural competence. As such she completed a second Master’s degree in Social Work through Rutgers University, New Brunswick. There she refined her expertise in Strength Based and Solution Focused therapies, and began to educate and advocate, and fulfill her role as a caring, compassionate clinician.

Lena is a wife of 20 years and mother to 3 children ages 9-17. An artists since her youth she often makes analogies to art and sensory modalities. Lena loves to be surrounded by nature’s beauty, color, texture, movement, and serenity. Originating from strengths based and creative thinking persuasion, she has always taken pride in recognizing the unique individuality of those she meets, and is driven and motivated by helping others find their voice and talents.

Lena, has worked on a Child Study Team in Middlesex County as a School Social Worker and Case Manager, and completed clinical internships in School Based Youth Services working with high/middle school, individuals and groups dealing with various, including acculturation, concerns. Lena has worked in the elementary guidance setting participating in both micro and macro levels of practice, character education, student, teacher and parent support, participating in “Retention to Intervention” and child study team student collaborative meetings, facilitating groups, crisis counseling and administering classroom lessons.   While studying at Pratt Institute Lena completed an Art Therapy internship working with geriatric populations in a day treatment program in NY; she has also worked for the extended school year, “Job Employment Training” program at Collier Youth Services, a therapeutic school,  for the past two summers.

Lena has worked extensively with adolescents, children and differently abled populations. Anxiety, loss/bereavement, depression, mood-disorders, ADHD and ASD diagnoses cite a few of her areas of interest. Lena has studied play therapy, and regularly consults independent research including but not limited to, mindfulness, holistic health and aromatherapy. She has recently completed her training and also offers Reiki energy therapy.
