Cristie Ritz-King

Cristie has earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from West Virginia University and the University of Maryland, respectively. After ten years as a classroom teacher and reading specialist and another five as a blogger and social media strategist, Cristie felt called to a kind of work that would better address people as their whole selves, no matter their age or stage in life.

Cristie earned a certificate as a Holistic Health Practitioner through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners after studying at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City. It was through her work as an CHHP, that Cristie’s passion for mental health was reignited. Cristie completed a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher and is currently enrolled in a Doctoral program for Psychology at California Southern University. Cristie is a firm believer in the ideas that one should never stop learning and it is never too late to pursue your dreams.

In addition to all the professional and educational avenues Cristie has travelled, perhaps the most important path is the one where she is a wife and mother, for it is these roles that have largely driven her professional and creative pursuits. No matter what subjects Cristie studies or different jobs she’s held, all roads ultimately lead back to families. Cristie is passionate about working with parents and children to help foster healthy, communicative and happy homes, and with women in transition on finding their place and purpose in the world.

Her work has included a clinical internship for Hackensack-Meridian’s Partial Hospital Program and Children’s Outpatient Center where she worked with adolescents and adults with mental health and addiction issues. In addition, Cristie has worked as the sexual violence counselor for 180 Turning Lives Around, providing both supportive counseling and court advocacy to survivors of sexual and domestic violence.

Cristie’s highest priority is to help empower adults and children to find their true north and align their lives with it. It is here where the healing begins. As a firm believer in the connection of mind and physical body, Cristie does this through an eclectic mix of strategies including; mindfulness, EMDR, trauma yoga, cognitive-behaviorism and person-centered talk therapy. Cristie believes every person who comes into her office has the power and intuition to heal themselves and move into their own light. Her job is merely to patiently help guide people toward the greatness they already possess.

Cristie’s life, both professional and personal, is influenced by trauma specialists Bruce Perry and Judith Herman, mind-body guru Bessel VanDerKolk and Psychiatrist Irvin Yalom. In addition, Cristie is forever grateful to the incredible mentors she has been lucky enough to study under and work with in the fields of both education and psychology. Personally, Cristie seeks joy by the sea, preferably with a great work of fiction in hand and in the company of the husband, children and fur-children whom she adores.
